Well what a busy end of the term and year. We are so proud of all our students who participated enthusiastically in the pantomime and I am sure you will agree with us that it was a successful night. The students have been busy with all sorts of activities, we have been swimming, playing tee ball and bat down, exploring down the back of the field, reading some pretty interesting books with lots of new language. Playing some new math games, christmas crafts and much much more. As I was reading the students a story on Thursday we had a student nod off to sleep. I would like to say it is the soothing tones of my voice but I think it is more likely a combination of the end of the year and the heat.

Miss McGeady is moving on at the end of the year to take up a position at Blaketown School, lucky them and we wish her well in her new job. I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to our amazing teacher aides, Amanda and Salena. Thank you so much for your dedication to our students, your guidance and patience, your forward thinking and can do attitude. I couldn’t have done this term without you both.

The students of Ruma Piwakawaka have been a delight to teach this term and I would like to thank all of them for welcoming me into their room.

Wishing you all a very merry christmas and a restful and happy 2018.

Well here we are moving back into our original classroom and it certainly feels like the end of the term. The students are excited about moving up to the next year level and welcoming a new teacher to work with our Yr 3/4 akonga. All the students were outstanding during the Christmas pantomime and now we are busy getting ready for the Christmas Parade this Saturday. Rain is forecast, but with the weather like it has been, it is hard to imagine it will ever rain! Ruma Kokako welcomed Akbar and Bilal into the class last week. Bilal will be staying with the Year 3 students next year, and Akbar will be joining the Year 5 class. The brothers have quickly made themselves at home and the Ruma Kokako are showing real Whanaungatanga looking after them. As this is our last post, I would like to wish all te whanau o te Kura te Tuatahi o Hokitika all the very best for the Christmas holidays.

Arohanui, Ruma Kokako.

Kia ora e te whanau. Ruma kotuku joined in with the triathlon on Monday, all students tried their best and it looked like they had a lot of fun! This marked the beginning of swimming for our school. We will be swimming everyday, tamariki need to bring a note from home if they are not going to be joining in. We will be teaching all students swimming skills and water safety so this is a very important part of our school curriculum.

Ruma kotuku led the school assembly today. Tamariki demonstrated how the play is the way life rafts are said in te reo Maori. We had a lot of children away today and the children on stage did a great job at presenting to the rest of the school and whanau.

How fantastic was that Wearable Art’s Show? Thanks to all the parents that came and well done to all the tamariki that WOWed us with their creations. A big congratulations also to all the students that participated in the Junior Athletics. I was impressed with the strong and sensible decisions you were all making. This week we were so happy to welcome back Harlem, Atawhai and Isley into Ruma Kokako. They fit right in as if they have never been gone from HPS. We now have 25 wonderful tamariki in Ruma Kokako, which keeps me on my toes but makes life much more interesting with all the great individual qualities everyone bring to the class. I am looking forward to having some fun and rewarding experiences with these tamariki before the end of the term. Hope you’re all enjoying this beautiful weather while it lasts.
